How do I tell a boy I like that I like him?

Dear Sepideh,

How do I tell a boy I like that I like him without sounding crazy?

LeeAnna, FL

Solution:

  • Make sure to keep it private – let him know privately without his friends around
  • Write a letter to him
  • Make sure not to overdo it – e.g. don’t write ten letters. One is enough

Feeling out of control

Coach,

I can’t help but want to know all the details of my families’ schedules and daily routine. I feel so uncomfortable, scared and not in control when I don’t know what is going on, is this normal?

- Kim, CA

Solution:

  • Make a group planner that is easy for everybody to keep updated (electronic or paper)
  • Try to calm down by meditating
  • Ask more questions – make time to communicate with your family members

Hard to fit in

Sepideh,

I don’t have a lot of friends in middle school and it’s hard for me to fit in with any groups. Sometimes I say things I regret later, I can’t make normal conversations. Any advice?

- Penny, SC

Solution:

  • Find people with same interest – look at clubs, student government, activities, or guidance counselor
  • Be more aware of what you say. Pause for a moment to think about what you are about to say
  • Offer your help. Volunteers are often welcome

Am I being selfish?

Dear Coach,

I have always felt different from my family. I have a younger sister and a baby brother who seem to get all the attention. Mom & Dad never have time for me. I feel invisible, am I being selfish?

-Lisa, NY

Solution:

  • - Find ways to get more involved with your own family
  • - Find a friend to keep you company
  • - Talk with your parents at the dinner table about your feelings
